Issue 38 / APRIL 2012 Cookie Monsta ARTIST OF THE MONTH DnB / DUBSTEP / BREAKS ALBUM REVIEW www.guestlist.net 41 Cookie Monsta, also known as Tony Cook, is a producer and DJ from Nottingham. Most notably for his Dub- step, With his floor trem- bling bass lines and dirty style he has become one of the most recognised names in dubstep to date and is signed to power house dub- step record label 'Circus Re- cords' where he joins other massive names such as 'Flux Pavilion' and 'Doctor P'. He officially released 'Ginger Pubes/ Blurgh!' as his first EP on Circus records which propelled him onto the dub- step circuit, 'Ginger Pubes' later became an anthem for dance floors everywhere. Cookie Monsta got his opportunity to show what he could do in public with Circus Records Takeover on GetDarker TV. Cookie Mon- sta's remix of Taio Cruz's tune 'Dirty Picture' got a lot of attention and became a big hit for him, he has gone on to release his 'Me Want Cookie EP' and is set to release his newest EP 'Riot!' which is set to be a big one. He recently went on tour in America. Cookie Monsta is one to watch out for! APRIL RELEASES TOTAL SCIENCE & S.P.Y. Piano funk ft. It seems this artist stuck to the exact same formula, as these tracks don't differ much from earlier material. In terms of a full album it seems a bit weak, not likely one that's you'll want to play over and over. However there are certain tracks that as stand alone material really shine. Most notably, the open- ing track featuring Lupe Fiasco (also entitled 'Vava Voom') is a dark, bass heavy party track that showcases Bassnectars awesome ability to create a Dub-Hop sound that is a breath of fresh air from all the blip synths and electro house sounds dubstep has been getting far too overcrowded with since the rise of Skrillex and the thousands of other copycat artists. Another amazing track is Laughter Crescendo, which shows a softer side to the artist (without losing the bass of course). It's a much more spacey and ambi- ent sounding track that's just down right cool. Definitely worth checking out this album and picking out some of the better songs to add to your collection.
