Issue 38 / APRIL 2012 ALABAMA SHAKES THE BOXER REBELLION 45 INDIE / ROCK www.guestlist.net Somthing a little different from this internatonal rock band. Alabama Shakes are more than your go-to band. As their name suggests, Alabama Shakes are indeed from the depths of Alabama and they formed with the help of Brittany Howard's high school connections. Her bouncing curls and schoolteacher spectacles mean Howard really stands out from the crowd of the stereotypical limp-haired, indie frontman. Her husky soul voice distinguishes them from other bands and ignites a 'back to basics' raw rock flavour. The band's sound has deep south drawl that resonates throughout their songs making them comparable with their state neighbours Kings of Leon and the Black Keys. Alabama Shakes diary dates are rammed with summer festivals throughout the UK, such as Secret Garden Party, Bestival and T in the Park so it would be well worth checking them out. There is certainly a very welcome space in the music industry for Howard's female dulcet tones and as a solid band, Alabama Shakes are ready and prepared to take up the challenge to fill it. Leadsinger, Nathan Nicholson left Tenessee after the death of his mother and moved to London. The band formed after Nicholson met guitarist Todd Howe trough an online posting for musicians. Soon drummer Piers Hewitt and bass player Adam Harrison , both just graduated from London Music School, were added to the band. Their latest album 'The Cold' Still broke its way into the i Tunes top 10 in less than 24 hours. This album had outstanding reviews The Boxer Rebellion's songs have been featured in countless APRIL RELEASES BEAR IN HEAVEN I Love You, It´s Cool (HOMETAPES) M.
