Tuesday's weather caused a host of cancella- tions and postponements throughout the area. Three Leeds and Thou- sand Islands Township meetings were moved from Feb. 16 to Wed., Feb 17. The Heritage Conserva- tion and celebration grant presentation, a public meeting and a regular council meeting were moved to Wednesday afternoon. The Village of West- port's committee of the whole meeting was moved from Tuesday night to Mon., Feb. 29. After all school buses were cancelled Tuesday morning, the Upper Cana- da District School Board closed schools early where students were no longer in attendance. The cancellations also postponed a pair of high school basketball semi- finals for the RDHS Lions, one in Elgin and the other in Brockville. They may be played Wed., Feb. 17. The milder, subse- quently stormy weather came too late for some other events. Severe cold on Satur- day saw Delta's Winterfest postponed to a later date and the Tay Valley Loppet at Murphy's Point was cancelled for 2016. It was originally sched- uled for January but post- poned to Feb. 14 due to weather conditions before falling victim to a lack of good snow. Local heritage groups are looking for submissions this spring for their digital archives. Local heritage groups are inviting the public to help create a lasting digital record of valuable docu- ments and photographs important to the area's his- tory. This Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Elgin Community Complex there will be an opportuni- ty to have documents and photographs scanned to become part of an online accessible record. The new project is funded by Library and Archives Canada until the end of March 2016 and is under the management of the Chaffey's Lock Her- itage Society and the Delta Mill Society. The groups are getting assistance from Rideau Lakes Library which this spring will be opening the Rideau Lakes Local Histo- ry Centre in rooms adja- cent to the Delta Public Library. The project will bring together books and records pertaining to the history of the area, including micro- film records of a number of local newspapers. The project will help train volunteers who will be able to continue with the goal of making more documents and photos accessible on the www.lakesandislands.ca website. On Sunday there will be an ongoing slide pre- sentation of images from that collection as well as a presentation by Austin Bresee, the coordinator of the project. A final scanning/open house will be held Sunday, March 20 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Old Town Hall in Delta.
