BASKETBALL RECRUITING but it should have been a better one," Geschke said. "I was looking to shoot, and then I saw Jon out of the corner of my eye." "It's a special night for him," Me‑ dina (Ohio) High coach Chris Has‑ singer added. "He started off slow, but then he started taking the game over offensively for us. He became more physical and tough inside." Teske had 11 points at intermis‑ sion, the last coming on a triple at the buzzer that put the Bees up 35‑31. He scored nine points in the first four minutes of the third before getting a brief rest, returning to reach the milestone. "He has the ability to turn it on of‑ fensively," Hassinger said of Teske. "He tries so hard to make the right basketball play all the time. He's got a great basketball IQ. Sometimes it hurts him because he passes up shots, but that's just the way he is." That wasn't Teske's only big mo‑ ment of the month. He enjoyed another Jan. 22 when he hit a turn‑ around jumper at the buzzer, follow‑ ing a 75‑foot inbounds pass, to beat Solon (Ohio) High 60‑58. "We practice that play every day, so we were confident that we could do it," Teske said. "We realized there was enough time left, and all we had to do was execute. Jimmy [Daw] made a great pass, and I was able to make the shot." Teske notched a game‑tying dunk with 48 seconds on the clock, and then stole the ball under the Solon basket with five seconds left, The Medina Gazette reported. He initially tried to find his guard before calling timeout. "Jon is such a smart player, and he gave us extra life," Hassinger said. "We knew that [Daw] is a good passer, and when Solon lined up, our coaching staff said, 'We can pull this off.' That's exactly what happened." Medina (Ohio) High faced a criti‑ cal game against rival Brunswick Feb. 9 and fell short, 55‑51, but Teske played extremely well, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds. "Medina kept battling behind Teske (nine points over the last 3:15)," The Medina Gazette reported, but they fell short. Teske converted a three‑point play that made the score 49‑47 with 39.3 seconds left. "I thought we did a nice job bat‑ tling back, but we went through that one stretch when I think Jon only had two touches in the third quarter," Hassinger said. "We ran all these dif‑ ferent looks to get him touches, and we kind of panicked." Medina (Ohio) High beat Elyria (Ohio) High 54‑37 in Greater Cleve‑ land Conference (GCC) action Feb. 12 behind Teske's 18 points, 12 re‑ bounds, three assists and two blocks. The second place Bees (15‑6 over‑ all, 10‑3 GCC) remained a game back of Brunswick with one league game left to play, meaning it could earn a share of the league crown if it wins at Mentor (Ohio) High Feb. 19 and Shaker Heights (Ohio) High upsets Brunswick (Ohio) High. Teske was averaging 16.5 points per game in his senior year. Down the road at Lima (Ohio) Se‑
