SCORE SAN FELIPE 250 OVERVIEW "30th" SCORE CELEBRATES THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SAN FELIPE 250 W ith 30 years of history behind it, the 2016 SCORE San Felipe 250 marks the beginning of the SCORE World Desert Racing season. Many of the top racers are looking for repeat victories at this race, but no one wants it more than Gus Vildosola Jr. (Tavo) who has five class-wins here, but has also won the race three times in a row. Vildosola looks for a record-setting fourth victory and is determined to put his name in history, as well as make this his championship season within the SCORE Trophy Truck division. While many racers have become familiar with the terrain in San Felipe, the actual race course will be slightly different than in previous years. Originally the race would start and finish at the famous arches on the outskirts of town. This year, it begins and ends at the San Felipe Malecon. The approximate 250 mile, one- loop course will travel much of the Baja peninsula and include some of the area's most grueling washes and terrain. As the course hits its farthest point south, racers will have the coast visible to them when they turn north to head back into San Felipe. While many teams have already begun pre-running the course, on-site registration will be made available on February 24th at the Rockodile on the Malecon. Pre-race festivities include the Monster Energy Kick-Off party, and the Bud Light Party, both held at the Rockodile on the Malecon February 25th. Both parties begin a 7pm and go on until 11pm. Contingency will be in downtown San Felipe on the Malecon on Friday February 26th at 10am. It's here where hundreds of race fans fill the main streets to meet with teams and their favorite race drivers in person, and get photos, decals, and other memorabilia before the race. On race day, Saturday February 27th, staging begins pre-dawn at 5:15 am for the Pro and Sportsman Motorcycles and Quads. The checkered flag drops at 6am where riders are sent off every minute. Staging for the Trophy Trucks and Class 1 vehicles begin at 9am, where vehicles are sent off every 60 seconds, with a five minute gap between the classes. All other four-wheel classes will then be sent off the starting line, one vehicle every 30 seconds. By the end of race day, SCORE officials will tally points and penalties and will post the winners on 11am the following day. The Awards banquet for the 2016 San Felipe 250, will be held at 12-noon, February 28th, at the Rockodille on the Malecon. Following the SCORE San Felipe 250, the second race in the SCORE World Desert Challenge will be the Baja Sur 500, that will take place April 14-17 in La Paz, Baja California.
