winning was definitely not as easy as it looked. For Shelby Reid, being a mom, running a company, and winning her first SCORE Class 1 Championship title was definitely a shocker, especially given how the season was going for her in the beginning. "We were lucky to win the Class 1 championship," says Shelby Reid. "We DNF'd two races and it was really hard to come back." Reid in her Class 1 buggy had begun the 2015 season wanting to race all five of the SCORE World Desert Championship races. Her problems began at the SCORE San Felipe 250 where, unfortunately, she posted a DNF. "It was my first year to run the full SCORE season in the Class 1 car. So I was all prepared for San Felipe," said Reid. "We went a whole three miles before we had experienced engine failure." At the SCORE Baja Sur 500, Reid finished second, which she said gave her and the team some much-needed confidence going into the third SCORE race, the Baja 500. It was here that engine troubles plagued the Class 1 car again. Only two miles into the course, the engine quit and she posted another DNF. Not wanting to quit, Reid appeared at the SCORE Imperial Valley 250 and won her class, which gave the team hope to still be competitive for the SCORE Baja 1000. "I figured we had nothing to lose," said Reid. "We thought we'd have to win the SCORE Baja 1000 to win the championship." Reid had a good race at the SCORE Baja 1000, running close to her competitors. Ultimately she came in second place with very close competition. "There were three cars were running close together, tracking pretty much through the whole race," said Reid. "It was a really close, but the thing about Baja is that it gets you, and you get stuck somewhere on the course. When I got into the vehicle, my teammate Danny Eberts had given us a 20-minute lead. Then I broke a wheel, wrapping it around the rotor. My co-rider Dale Eberts and I struggled to take it off and change it. This cost us some time and we were disappointed to come in second place." Nevertheless, when the points were tallied, Shelby Reid came out on top, winning the SCORE Class 1 points championship. "When we found out we won the points championship for DURING THE 2015 SEASON, CODY REID WON HIS CLASS AT THE SCORE BAJA SUR 500, AND AT THE SCORE BAJA 1000. 051 SCORE JOURNAL
