CHAD HALL LEARNED FROM HIS DAD, RACING LEGEND AND OFF-ROAD HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE, ROD HALL, EVERYTHING NECESSARY TO COMPETE SUCCESSFULLY IN SCORE'S STOCK FULL. SCORE 101 vehicle wisely," said Hall. "In my opinion, with all the silt in Baja, you must choose a four-wheel drive vehicle, pick a strong one like a 3/4-ton such as the Ford F-250. We like the Hummer H2 and H1. We won three SCORE Baja 1000's in an H3." Some of the more common trucks in this class are also 1-ton pickups, because the drivetrain components, suspension, brakes, ball joints, etc. are built with heavy-duty hardware from the factory, and can withstand the punishment that Baja can deliver. Other teams will choose half-ton trucks as a foundation to build a Stock Full race truck, and modify them with stronger components to achieve a faster truck, but must be careful not to push the vehicle too hard. One perfect example of this is John Gonzales and the Navigo race team. Their well prepared Ford Raptor ran the entire season, the team's first in this class, with the intention of learning all they could as a team. Taking the points championship in the class, the team obviously learned how to take care of the truck during a race, and learned the limitations of the vehicle. According to one of the team's spokespersons, the lessons, they learned about logistics, support, and pre-running, prepared them for their goal of racing Trophy Truck Spec for the 2016 SCORE season. Working With Limited Wheel Travel And Factory Components While many race vehicles have large amounts of wheel travel, 17-20 inches or more, it would seem that driving a stock truck with a stock suspension would be real frustrating. But the rules allow some changes GETSOMEPHOTO.COM 082 SCORE JOURNAL
