and could develop into a three-point
shooter. She missed the first two at-
tempts of her career, the second go-
ing halfway down against Ohio State
before jumping back out.
But there are so many positives
already.
"She's great," senior April Wilson
said. "She's one of the best fresh-
men I've ever played with. She's ag-
gressive on the boards and a beast
down low."
Since the start of the Big Ten,
McBryde has taken a step forward.
Through mid-February, she was av-
eraging 8.9 points and 4.3 rebounds
in conference games, including that
stretch of four in which she was
dialed in. Then, the Boilermakers
started looking for her as a go-to
player, like they did down the stretch
of the close Jan. 20 contest vs. Ne-
braska.
In the last four minutes, as Purdue
rallied from down nine early in the
fourth, McBryde had a three-point
play off a jumper, followed by a block
and an assist in the next 90 seconds.
An open layup rolled out at 2:09, but
Torrie Thornton hit McBryde with 40
seconds left, pulling Purdue within
one.
It set up the final sequence, when
McBryde had a chance to win it, but
passed instead.
"Definitely a learning moment,"
she said, "and that comes with ex-
perience. I've had to do things on
the fly this season, so I'll learn and
next time — hopefully it won't come
down to that — but I'll have that in
the back of my head."
