fundamentals, as well as putting an emphasis on having a
"we" mentality and the importance of accountability.
"I'm impressed," defensive tackle Jake Replogle said.
"He seems like he really knows what he's doing. I feel con-
fident and I feel like he feels confident in the defense, and
that will reflect on how we play in the spring. As players, we
just need to do a really good job of embracing his philoso-
phy and making sure we do it right.
"I think the biggest thing is learning the defense and
playing fast and feeling comfortable with it. I think that's
huge."
Finding a comfort level on offense will be key, too. And
for a group that hasn't been able to produce consistent-
ly, especially at the quarterback position, it's no surprise
Malone and Hazell said the most important piece was to
style a "quarterback-friendly" offense.
To Hazell, that means being able to be somewhat simple,
"so we can just (go) without putting in a whole bunch of
things week-in and week-out so we can execute at a high

In his first season as a starter, David Blough completed 58
percent of his passes, threw for nearly 1,600 yards and had
10 TD passes. He's eager to take the reins of the offense this
spring and put up much bigger numbers in Year 2.
