74 SOD FARM SPOTLIGHT More science-based grasses that actually live up to the marketing hype is the reason behind the offi cial launch earlier this year of Sod Production Services, a division of Riverside Turf, headquartered in Charles City, Va. "We felt there was a lack of truly different science-based grasses," said Brian Walker, director of business development for Riverside Turf. What has been the norm is a company developing a new turfgrass with data on the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program and it doing OK initially. "Branding and marketing would get on board and the next thing you know it would be a replacement for all grasses," Walker said.
