Updates from Serving The American Rinks
U.S. Figure Skating
In January, Cory Portner served as an ice
technician for the the 2016 Prudential U.S.
Figure Skating Championships held in St.
Paul, Minn. Cory and John Monteleone will
also be representing U.S. Figure Skating
as Ice Technicians during the ISU World
Figure Skating Championship in Boston,
Mass., at the end of March.
STAR Staff Supports
NHL Stadium Series
In early February, Cory and John led
the volunteer ice crew during the 11th
annual USA Hockey Pond Hockey
Championship in Eagle River, Wis. This
was the 10th year that STAR staff have
supported the ice operations component
of this event.

In late February, Cory
was a member of the
ice crew, led by Mike
Craig, NHL Senior
Manager of Facilities
Operations, for the outdoor rink at Coors
Field in Denver, Colo. The rink was used
for the NHL Stadium Series events and
game between the Detroit Red Wings and
Colorado Avalanche.

Management Associations
In late April, John Monteleone will
be attending the Wisconsin Ice Arena
Management Association (WIAMA) and
the Northeast Ice Skating Managers
Association (NEISMA) annual spring
conferences. He will be instructing a STAR
Programming, Marketing & Promotions
(PMP) course for WIAMA members two
days prior to their conference, and then
leading various breakout sessions during
the WIAMA conference. John will then
travel to Massachusetts to conduct another
PMP course for NEISMA members during
their conference. J
