Brown to continue work this fall •Continued from page 1 seriously," he said. Marina owner Dave Brown has been the owner of the two-storey boathouse, on the west side of the canal north of the lock, for several years. Last winter Brown prepared for the move by having a beam built around the inside of the structure below the sec- ond floor. "I put the beams in readying for this moment. We installed the beams which sup- ported the structure for the lift," said Brown. Other preparations included plowing wide and sanding thoroughly on Herman Road, off of the Opinicon Road and plowing his own yard to have the frost drive hard into the ground to sup- port the crane and to receive the building. "I had permission twice before but I just hadn't had the money," said Brown who is look- ing forward to doing more work on the project next fall when fish habi- tat restrictions won't be in effect for in-water work. The property has a connection to the Opini- con Hotel which was once the Opinicon Club, a fishing lodge owned by wealthy people from Youngstown, Ohio. One of the original owners of the property David F. Anderson had been a member of the club in its early days," said local historian Sue Warren. "As a kid we called it Burton's. There was a big fire and the house burned down in the sixties. If I remember correctly, the mid to late sixties. Even- tually the Kelly's owned it. A lot of local kids par- tied in the boat house," said Warren. The Review-Mirror March 10, 2016 – 16 ALL GARDENERS! Dave Brown's boat house project will be continuing this fall. The property as seen in the early 1900s.
