Some families, like the
Ampudia's of Mexico, are very
popular with the locals as they
have participated within SCORE
since 1986. In recent times,
carrying on the Ampudia name
within SCORE is Aaron Ampudia,
who now at 23, won the 1/2
1600 class championship in
2015. His driving ability and
technique allowed Ampudia
to win nearly every race of
the SCORE season, topping
it off with the SCORE Baja
1000 win last November.
While he celebrates his
accomplishment, Ampudia is
quick to recognize the traditions
and lessons his family have
passed down to him over the
years. "My father Rodrigo started
racing back in 1986 with his
brother (my uncle) Rogerio," said
Ampudia. "They were racing in a
5-1600 and eventually managed
to move up all the way to Trophy
Truck class. My brothers and I
grew up in Ensenada following
my dad and uncle to all of their
races, where eventually my

oldest brother Rodrigo Jr. got
the opportunity to race a 1/2
1600 when he was 16 years old.
When he became focused on
racing in a different series, my
brother Alan and I started racing
trophy karts and then got the
opportunity to race a 1/2 1600."
