As the Trophy Trucks sped off the starting line, three- time champion BJ Baldwin demonstrated a renewed dominance of the field and quickly jumped out in front, leading for most of the race. Vildosola also moved up the pack, but at the Matomi Wash, race mile 137.7, Vildosola broke down and could not continue. While it seemed as though Baldwin would clinch his first SCORE San Felipe 250 win, mechanical problems put an end to his race only 30 miles from the finish line. The result of that left Billy Wilson, in the right position to take his first victory in the Trophy Truck division. Making the victory sweeter is the fact that this was Wilson's first race in this division, one that was obviously off to a great start despite he and the team thinking their chances of winning were low, especially after starting in the tenth position and encountering problems early on in the race. "We had some navigational issues with the GPS and in the first 20 miles we were kind of running in the dark and blind," said Wilson. "It's hard to run at race speed without the GPS. Right off the bat around race mile two, we noticed we had some oil cooler failures so we were pacing ourselves so we wouldn't end the race in the first few miles. Obviously, that paid off." Wilson slowly moved up the pack and after Vildosola had broken down, and ended up also passing Baldwin after he had broken down on the course. "This is my first race in SCORE Trophy Truck but I've been racing in SCORE for about seven years," said Wilson. "Matomi Wash collapsed and was narrower than the truck at one point, so we were scraping by.
