OFF-ROAD COMMUNITY LOSES INDUSTRY PIONEER FRANK CURRIE One of the leaders in the off- road industry, Frank Currie, passed away March 2, 2016 of natural causes. Frank Currie and the Currie family have been actively involved in off- road motorsports and the automotive aftermarket hobby, creating and innovating axles and drivetrain components that racers and hot-rodders have relied on for decades. Currie was born in Anaheim, California in 1929 and became involved in the early years of hot rodding. An Air Force Veteran, Currie was stationed in Oklahoma as an aircraft mechanic. Following his service, Currie met his wife Evelyn while working at Taylor-Dunn Manufacturing in Anaheim, California, and was married in 1955. Currie realized an ever growing need for rear differentials to be adapted to the chicken feeder machines that were manufactured at Taylor- Dunn, and eventually became a large supplier of the core rearends to the company. He founded Currie Enterprises in 1959 supplying the rearend cores to Taylor-Dunn and the automotive aftermarket. Currie raced buggies and was an experienced off-road driver, having early model Broncos, Willys station wagons, and most recently an LS powered Jeep TJ Wrangler. He co-drove with son John in the first BFG Rock Crawling Championship in 1998, where they took a second place finish. Sons Charles, John, Raymond, and Andy continued to grow the company after Frank retired in 1985. Currie's grandson Casey Currie is actively involved in off-road racing and has participated at the 2015 SCORE Baja 500 and plans to participate in 2016 events to carry on his grandfather's tradition and involvement in motorsports.
