PREP PROFILES The Nation's Top Wide Receiver Will Look At U-M Michigan reeled in the country's No. 1 prospect in the 2016 class, and now it has a chance to snag one near the top of the 2017 rankings. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aqui‑ nas wide receiver Trevon Grimes is a physical speci‑ men at 6‑4, 196 pounds and is ca‑ pable of running the 40‑yard dash in the 4.5‑second range. Grimes — who plans to take a summer visit to Ann Arbor — is listed as a five‑ star recruit, the No. 1 player in the Sunshine State, and the No. 1 wide‑ out and No. 3 overall prospect na‑ tionally by Rivals.com. "I want to visit," Grimes ex‑ plained. "I want to get out and see everybody. I talk to them, to Coach [Jim] Harbaugh on the phone. He tells me that campus is unbeatable. I just want to see that for myself. "My father has a friend who went there and graduated there, and he tells me the same thing. He didn't even know I was a recruit, or I was being recruited, and he was like, 'I went to school at Michigan, and it's amazing.' I want to go up there for myself and see what it's like. I want to experience it." It won't be easy for the Wolver‑ ines, though. Grimes is a Midwest native — relocating from Indianapo‑ lis to Florida before beginning his high school career — but it was a different Big Ten program that had his attention as a young man: Ohio State. The Buck‑ eyes have long been considered the favorite for Grimes, and al‑ though that has given him some familiarity with OSU's top rival, it does mean U‑M will have to over‑ come his child‑ hood leanings. "I watched the Michigan‑Ohio State game," he said. "Other than that, I watched what they've done, and I liked the improvement. It's al‑ ways good to have an NFL coach coaching you. "If I was coached by Coach Har‑ baugh, it would be a complete honor because he's coached the best. He's been where I'm hopefully trying to go." Continued success on the grid‑ iron should help U‑M's chance to sway Grimes. A summer trip to Ann Arbor, should it happen, will be very important to Michigan's shot at stealing a top player out of the Southeast. — Tim Sullivan ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ St. Thomas Aquinas Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
