M uch-maligned throughout his four-year career — his 2.86 goals-against average is the highest by a Wolverine netminder to start 50 games or more since Scott Sharples' 3.99 mark from 1987-90 — senior goalie Steve Racine silenced his crit- ics during the Wolverines' four-game postseason run, allowing just 10 goals and recording a .925 save percentage. "I thought he was terrific," head coach Red Berenson said. "There have been question marks the past three years about our goaltending, but I don't think there was any ques- tion about it this year. He gave us a chance." Racine's shining moment came in Michigan's 3-2 overtime victory against Notre Dame March 25, earn- ing U-M its first NCAA Tournament victory since the 2010-11 season. Racine recorded 28 saves in the game and almost single-handedly kept U-M from getting blown out in the second period when Michigan trailed 2-1. "I thought he played great. He made some big saves early, and without that, we would have been in a pretty big hole," sophomore defenseman Zach Werenski said after the game. "For him to make those saves, it was huge."
