ANDRÉ LANSKOY 1902 - 1976 André Lanskoy was a key member of the École de Paris following the Second World War that propagated the lyrical movements of Abstraction and Tachisme. Studying closely the spiritual abstract forms of Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky, Lanskoy was described by critic Pierre Guégen, as 'one of the greatest of all abstract painters'. In Lueurs Incertaines (meaning 'uncertain light') a myriad of colour and abstract form create a poetic sensation akin to the haze of the final moments of daylight. Lanskoy described this carefully composed network of ellipses and tonal combinations as, 'even though every brushstroke represents for itself a transformed reality, it receives its true meaning in the context of surrounding shades of colour'. This work from 1947 was first acquired by Louis Carré and marks a turning point in Lanskoy's career as his relationship with the Parisian gallerist blossomed. During their sixteen year collaboration (1948-64) Carré, who also represented Hans Hartung and other leading abstract artists, provided Lanskoy with an international stage on which to exhibit his work.
