rv-pro.com MAY 2016 • RV PRO • 83 'But we just paid them for the same job,' they say. And I say, 'I don't care what you paid them for the same job.'" Tradewinds Well-Equipped for Collision Work Tradewinds has a 12,500-square-foot shop with seven service bays and a paint booth that is 65 feet by 20 feet, and 16 feet high. The collision center can work with fiberglass, aluminum and plas- tics on any make or model of motorhome. In addition to body work, the shop can do other repairs, such as work on refrigeration and air conditioning. Tradewinds stops short of doing engine or transmission work, however. The collision center is staffed by Challancin and four technicians plus a painter, paid by the hour rather than by flat rate. Tradewinds' 28-year-old parent company also owns Tradwinds RV, an Ocala seller of travel trailers from Jayco, K-Z, Open Range and Keystone. Tradewinds RV also has a service facility and parts store. Tradewinds gets collision repair customers from all over the U.S.; many have headed to Florida from parts north, and are able to get their repairs done once they've reached their winter destina- tion. But others are willing to go an extra mile — or hundreds of miles — for Tradewinds's service: Challancin says one customer had his RV towed in from Missouri for repair. Some customers who haven't had their RV damaged in an acci- dent before don't quite grasp how much body work can cost, Chal- lancin says, noting he's had customers bring in a damaged vehicle and suggest the repair will be "only a couple hundred dollars." In truth, a very minor repair can cost $3,500 and some repairs cost up to $25,000, he notes. The most-expensive repair ticket Tradewinds did in 2015 was one to replace the entire sidewall on a 38-foot motorhome. General Manager JR Challancin describes the types of repair and collision work the business does. On the wall behind him are the business's posted rates, which Challacin says some insurance companies won't honor. R V P R O D U C T S G R O U P ® 365 W.
