Well, any idiot who asks that question is about to get 65 million answers, so many of them thanks to you (in this audi- ence)." — Purdue President Mitch Daniels has backed it up with action (of approv- al in December). They get it. They can see if we do football right how it can im- pact every other thing. And there are so many things that are happening in this university that are off the charts. This just helps you create the front porch and football is the light on the front porch." Brees sees a similar vision. When he was Purdue's quarterback, the univer- sity benefitted in immeasurable ways from its football-led exposure on Sat- urdays. And its Ross-Ade Stadium was regularly filled to or near capacity, help- ing to boost the surrounding economy. Students were engaged. There was a buzz. "A winning football program does so much for the rest of the university," Brees said. "It increases our applicant pool, it brings in more talent, not just on the football side but with academics. "We're trying to create the next gen- eration for 20 years from now when all of a sudden there's another big fund- raising project. It's the young men and women we're influencing right now through this campaign and the people involved in the Leadership Circle now, we're creating that next generation that will be doing the same thing we are.
