C KIRK BARRON QB COACH TIM LESTER
N
ew quarterbacks coach Tim Lester
surely tells David Blough, Elijah Sindelar
and Aaron Banks when they do some-
thing right. But at this point in the development
of the young QBs, it's much more about pointing
out what's wrong — and then specifically work-
ing on a way to fix it. Whether it be improper
footwork, misidentifying a blitz and sliding to
the wrong protection, reading a coverage incor-
rectly or not getting perfect body placement on
a receiver on a pass, Lester is addressing issues
quickly. And though Lester has been coaching
them for only a handful of months, his guys
are intently listening, taking the criticism and
working diligently to get better. Because Lester
isn't only speaking from a coach's perspective,
he's speaking as a guy who has applied those
real-game lessons to their situations. At Western
Michigan, Lester threw for 11,300 yards and 89
TDs. So when Lester calls for greatness — he's
not willing for players to want to be "good" — he
doesn't just mean it, he expects it.
