The Purdue water tower will be a
backdrop to several holes in the ren-
ovated layout to the Ackerman-Allen
Golf Course. Yet, the course will have
enough familiarity to the old layout for
long-time players.
you still get some of that feel and flavor so to speak. And
the views of the water tower and campus views coming
into play on several holes make it beautiful.
"They have been strengthened and lengthened and
improved from a turf and agronomic standpoint. There
is a lot of new stuff out there."
Newly "retired" Glenn Tompkins, a passionate 10ish
handicap golfer who served as the chief business of-
ficer in athletics starting in the late 1980s, served as
a project manager on the Ackerman-Allen renovation
and thinks the new course has the possibility of being
a "home run."
