And a couple times, Jon pinned it on the backboard. "Jon is going to be hard for us to replace in that respect. He was such a defensive presence, and that's what he brings … he can protect the rim just like nobody else at the high school level. That's the part Michigan sees, and why he can make a quick impact with them." Teske was credited for five blocks in the Ohio All-Stars' two-point win over the Kentucky All-Stars in their annual, late-April grudge match, but Hassinger and other observers say he blocked or altered close to 15. He created such a buzz in the gym that many in attendance approached his family to ask why they hadn't heard of him before. But Teske isn't an attention seeker, and he rebuffed a number of offers to play for larger AAU programs to remain with his friends at Team Work. He still became a Mr. Basketball final- ist (an award won by future Michigan teammate and point guard Xavier Simpson of Lima, Ohio), a first-team All-Ohioan and the Greater Cleveland Conference Player of the Year. He also joined Medina County Sports Hall of Famer Ben Falkenberg of Wadsworth (2003-04) as the only two-time Medina Gazette MVPs.
