2016 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE he said. "I can steal the ball, shoot it, distribute. … I'm just showing I'm a leader, can score, be a playmaker, cre- ate for my team — everything I can to show what I can do." Roberts was aver- aging 11.3 points per game for his Spiece Indy Heat team on the Nike EYBL cir- cuit as of May 6, but he had made only 2 of 13 triples. DePaul has been on him hardest lately, he said, while Xavier, Toledo, Dayton and Notre Dame have also been re- cruiting him. He has been hearing a lot from Michigan recently, however. "Last month I picked up interest from Michigan a lot," he said. "… Coach [Jeff] Meyer and Coach Beilein have been in touch. They've showed interest since my freshman year, sophomore year. "I know Michigan is a great all- around school and Ann Arbor is a great city. You can't really go wrong with the Big Ten." Roberts has been on campus twice, most recently in the fall for a football game. He's planning on taking some more visits this summer in search of his best fit. JARROD WEST JR., PG 5-10 • 175 Bridgeport (W.Va.) Notre Dame Rivals.com three-star prospect West remains under the radar though he averaged 26.0 points per game as a junior. Beilein's son Pat — now the head coach at Le Moyne — first made his father aware of West when Pat coached at West Virginia Wesleyan, and U-M has continued to watch him since. West visited for Michigan's home finale against Iowa. "It was great atmosphere," he said. "They were on break so most of the students weren't there on senior night. They lost, but it was good to watch them battle." Michigan coaches returned the fa- vor in going to his school to watch him play and got his AAU schedule, insisting they'd see him this spring. Defense is one of the improvement areas he continues to target — "I've always been one of the smallest guys on the court," he ac- knowledged — and his jump shot con- tinues to improve. He shot 40.0 percent f r o m t h r e e - p o i n t range this season. His father, Jarrod West, is his coach and a former West Virginia standout. "I haven't beaten him yet, but I've been close," West Jr. said with a laugh. Vanderbilt and Florida have shown interest, while Marshall, Lib- erty, Winthrop and East Carolina have offered. "He's a pass-first point guard who can make open jumpers," Rivals. com's Jacey Zembal said after seeing him in April. "He understands how to keep everyone happy."
