"Lacrosse does give certain areas a real hammering," he reflects. But, thanks to his IOG training and the levels of expertise he has built up over the years, he consistently manages to produce a pitch that meets the expectations of the club and the players - especially visiting teams. The sand-filled tennis courts The rugby pitches in particular suffer heavy usage; one pitch is used most days for training and matches, including for community sports, by local schools and for Sale Sharks' summer rugby camp sessions. And the knock-on effect "But I am always learning and the new sand-filled tennis courts are a case in point – I'm going on an IOG synthetics playing surface maintenance course to ensure I am completely up to date." The 2011 IOG Industry Award for Grass Roots Sports Ground of the Year was sponsored by Bayer Heatons' teams Heaton Mersey Cricket Club is a member of the Cheshire County League and runs senior 1st, 2nd, 3rd XI as well as providing junior coaching and teams from Under 9 to Under 18. The club is ClubMark accredited, a Focus Club and part of the ECB Chance 2 Shine initiative. Heaton Mersey Tennis Club: ClubMark accredited; four mens and two ladies teams (North East Chesire Lawn Tennis League); social tennis is also a strong part of the club.
