28 PRODUCT SHOWCASE In action! A selection of products in use 'in the field' Drainage and sand banding keeps greens in play Set amongst mature trees and lush fairways is claimed to be one of the toughest and most stimulating courses in the West Midlands. In fact the 17th and 18th holes of the Robin Hood Golf Club are accepted as some of the most challenging finishing holes in the area. Three years after joining the club, Course Manager Andy Wood is delighted with significant improvements made in that time. When he joined the team, it was not the difficulty of the course which concerned him, but how to prevent it from constantly being out of play due to poor drainage. With development funds at his disposal, Andy has achieved some major improvements. The first task of the five-year improvement plan was to use contractors to install a new main drainage system, followed by the rebuilding of bunkers and tees. However, even with new drains, the course (like others) still had 'pockets' of areas which needed to be addressed and, to deal with this, Andy invested in an AFT 45 trencher and an AFT Sandbander. These have proved invaluable in tackling localised flooding and potentially wet areas. "We sandbanded across the main drain lines after the initial installation but it is inevitable that changes below the surface will over time still hold water," Andy explained. "We needed the flexibility of targeting areas as and when they became a problem. "In the past we had had a big problem with thatch and other organic matter building up on the greens and the main drainage system went an enormous distance in preventing this, but it is still essential that we alleviate any water lying on the surface as soon as it occurs." the Groundsman June 2012 GET IN LINE GREAT DEALS LI Taking Car of Britain' We sport rtssurf synthetic surface maintenance company. rfaces – all suppoort pair REPLAAY MaintenanceY Maintenance Ltd Ltd NEW Free Online Advice – visit The Gr ee Online Advice – eplaymai Wesley House, Whittle Close, esley House, Whittle Close, Newark, NG24 2DY 01636 640506 Online Advice – visit The Gr een Room at re r and maintain synthet Taking Care of Britain s Sports Surfaces. rted by a personal service We restore clean,e,, clean, rrepair and maintain syntheticetic sports surfaces – all supported by a personal service synthetic surface maintenance company LINNE MA MARRKER PAIN INT Here at Mark Harrod we produce a large selection of line marking paint suitable for spray and transfer line marking machines.
