into my racing. They never really were happy to share anything as far as that goes. I picked it up, eventually." "Within our team, I share all my knowledge I have," says Udall. "If I figure out something is good, I share it. Both bikes are exactly the same; we both have 'A'-kit suspension on our bikes. They have the same exact motor package. The only thing that's different is usually I build the 1X race bike—my race bike—and we usually have another mechanic doing the second bike." When asked what takes the majority of his time each week, Udall doesn't hesitate and replies, "Time and energy[-wise] is definitely building race bikes. When you take on the race team owner position and you have to do some of the other things [like sponsor relations, physical training and riding practice], it's really tedious and not fun [to work on bikes]. I used to really enjoy building my race bikes. Now, it's like pulling teeth for me. I still do it and I enjoy it sometimes, but as I mentioned before, I'm more an introvert. I like to be alone when I'm building race bikes. Essentially, there's always people around [at the shop] asking questions 'How do I do this?' or 'What do I do here?'—because I am meticulous and if they do it wrong, then I'm usually quick to straighten them out on it. Eventually, the people around me don't want to mess up too much." Considering what Udall has been through in his relatively brief career, it's amazing how much he already knows. He's dealt with adversity and was able to battle back to become a champion.
