above the left-side door. Soon
the lessons she learned began to
layer one upon the other. "I got
a salvaged Nissan Frontier for
my 16th birthday," said Sohren.
"The front was smashed-in, and
the rule was I had to fix it myself.
So, when I started working
in the shop with my dad."
By the time Sohren turned 18,
Pete had taken her pre-running
for her first race, the 2014
SCORE San Felipe 250. It's here
that she fell deep for the sport
that began her career. "My first
Baja race was the 2014 SCORE
San Felipe 250. That gave me
my very first taste of Baja,"
said Sohren. Working in the
shop for a couple years taught
Sohren how things worked
mechanically, and how to go
about maintaining a vehicle
and building one from the floor
up. But racing was what she
wanted to do. "When I raced
the SCORE San Felipe 250, I fell
in love. That race sucked me in
for life and from then on, I was
addicted," said Sohren. "That
race was different for me. I felt
the Baja magic. It all clicked.
My passion, my drive, my
excitement, my anxiousness, my
courage, my foot to the pedal;
I felt so exhilarated competing.
Off-road is the best sport in
the world and I'm so thankful
to be a part of it. I want to race
off-road the rest of my life."
With some shop time under
her belt, and learning how to
tackle mechanical challenges
without letting frustration derail
her progress, Sohren took that
passion and enthusiastic attitude
to Baja whenever she had the
chance. "I learned a lot about
desert racing when I went
pre-running with my dad," said
