The Review-Mirror May 19, 2016 – 20 By Margaret Brand The Review-Mirror The sale of Rideau Vista students' artwork this month raised around $2700 from a live and silent auction of students' collaborative works. On display and for sale were 79 works produced by the school's seven class rooms along with a selec- tion of juried art by indi- vidual students. "The quality and com- plexity this year from last year had increased. We saw a greater level of qual- ity," said principle Theresa Polite. "There is a really great emphasis on the creative process and the idea that emphasis is on discovery, inspiration and imagina- tion and experimentation. "It talks about colour is to be used randomly and in an imaginative way. That really opens up the whole world of creativity for kids Part of our vision at the school is to develop, fos- ter, and promote curiosi- ty," she said. A three-member artist jury, Carol-Lee Riley, Del- valle, and David Church came to the school and provided critiques. The collaborative works were curriculum related and more directed by the teachers' hand. "Throughout the year they were learning differ- ent elements, and looking at the principles of visual arts. As they were learning the techniques, teachers were planning the collabo- rative art projects," said Polite. Teachers were using their own creativity to develop projects which could be completed on a shoestring budget. "All of them looked quite professionally done. That whole idea of making your work public is, it's not just to be doing it for the sake of doing it. We are creating these master- pieces because we are going to raise money for our school," she said. The money will be used in collaboration with school council to enhance the arts program, offset the cost of field trips and sup- port other school projects.
