rv-pro.com JUNE 2016 • RV PRO • 33 T he importance of a capable service shop, coupled with a well-stocked parts store, seems to be gaining ground among dealerships every year. Naturally, getting customers to fre- quent parts and service departments where they purchase their RVs prevents money from walking off the lot. Few have taken that lesson to heart more seriously than Fun Town RV's Jarrod McGhee. The Texas-based towable dealer – whose eight stores are expected to sell 10,000 units by the end of 2016 – has grown like wildfire since rising from the ashes of McGhee's former employer, Fun Time RV in Cleburne, in 2011. Yet, each time a customer takes delivery, the CEO and majority owner sees more than just a sale; he sees someone who will need parts and service. To that end, he's developed a simple approach: Meet those needs with stand-alone facilities. It's working, as parts and service made up 15 percent of his total sales of $300 million last year. By some estimates, that's about 5 percent more than a typical dealership. In Fun Town's hometown, located just south of Fort Worth, McGhee purchased a former automobile dealership to house his shop, which opened last September, and is even borrowing from that industry to ensure it runs smoothly. "I built a stand-alone, 25-bay service center over there and I'm probably going to build another 50 bays on it within the next year. It's on 25 acres of land right down the street," he says. "It won't be propped up by the sales department. It'll be customer motivated. I'm planning on bringing CSI scores into it just like the auto industry and basing all my pay plans based on the posi- tive feedback we're getting from the customers." A business development center helping drive sales, combined with a strong focus on parts and service plus ATVs, allows the dealership to claim a large share of the Texas towables market.
