A&E MID-JUNE 2016 • 57 STEP TWO: Use the Magic Wand Tool to select the shape of the product by click- ing the outside of the shape. This will cre- ate an active selection (the moving dotted line) around the shape to easily create a Layer Mask; click on the Layer Mask icon at the bottom of the Layers menu. There should now be a Layer Mask on the template layer. At this time, save your file with a different name and as a layered Photoshop file format (PSD). STEP THREE: Following along with our example: From the graph- ics library, I downloaded a few back- grounds, a banner and a whale ac- cent from the Baby Boy category. My customer requested a picture frame that will be a gift for the parents of a newborn baby boy. We talked about what might be on the picture frame design-wise as well as what information. They supplied me the baby's name for the frame, and I downloaded the template already from the picture frame and applied the steps mentioned for creating a layer mask on a template. I suggest you follow the same steps when creating a custom gift order. Once a layer mask is created, it can be moved to different layers or duplicated then applied to a layer. The dotted lines around the product shape note the area is an active selection. A-Go-Go
