34 a-e-mag.com • A&E JULY 2016 SUBLIMATION QUICK STOP Sublimation sublimate on the back of this award, it also gives you the option to combine technologies and engrave on the front, giving it that desirable engraved texture with the full-color back, which provides the feeling of more dimension. The price point on this is a little higher than some other products, but it also has a lot higher of a perceived value, so you are able to charge more as well. SLATES AND WOOD ITEMS The different slate offerings are a great idea as well. Slates, which I am sure everyone has seen by now, come in several different sizes and shapes as well as a glossy or more of a matte finish depending on your needs. They are fairly simple to do and give each award a different, unique l o o k . M a ny c u s - tomers use them as a photo tile or some- thing along those l i n e s , b u t w h e n asked about giving it as an award, most hadn't ever thought about it. Photo slate is definitely something that shouldn't be overlooked as it creates a nice one-of-a- kind item. Another item that people don't tend to think about is the newer line of natural woods that Unisub offers. These are wood panels that are offered in a few different sizes—they have the natural wood look and feel but are sublimatable. Adding a commemorative aspect to it is a great idea; people already have wood plaques but a full-color option would put your product over the top. Along with the panels, Unisub also has a natural wood frame. These come with key holes on the back for easy mounting on a wall or an easel back for a table/desk stand and could be personal- ized with the picture of the event winner and information sublimated in full-color next to it. Something like this is a simple product but it is not usually thought of in an award context, which would set your products apart. CONCLUSION With all of the different technologies and all of the different competitors out there, setting yourself apart is critical in today's market. Your customers may be out for the best price on an item, but they may not know that there are other options to give their awards a different look. By presenting out-of-the-box type ideas, whether it is some we talked about today or your own, you allow the customer to become more creative and offer an award that is a one-of-a-kind that people will not soon forget. Natural wood panels are a great option as a different take on an award. Slates have been around for a while in the industry but are usually used in a photo application. Why not use them as an award?
