THIS PAGE: What is now known as Gloucester's Beacon Marine Basin was originally Booth Fisheries, which would later become Robertson's Marine. As Robertson's, the site was used to rig Navy boats during World War II. OPPOSITE PAGE: A. A. Dorr, 83 years young. Dorr is a decorated veteran—he was awarded a Bronze Star, a Silver Star, and a Purple Heart during his service in the Korean War—as well as a longtime tuna fisherman, but is now realizing a long-dreamed-of feat: boat building. Dorr built his boat, the Dog Star, and is currently building Quahog Skiffs in his workshop at the Beacon.
