such a good personal relationship with them that you
want to see them continue to be as successful as they
can be," Posey said. "You never want to see anyone lose
their job. So with us being so close to Coach Parker and
him being the great guy that he is, obviously we perform
not only for ourselves but also for him. And I'm sure every
position feels that way about their coach."
The players wouldn't put numbers on what it'd take to
keep the current group of coaches together.
They still say their goal is to win the Big Ten. They say
they'd love to get to a bowl game. (The program hasn't
gone four consecutive seasons without a bowl appear-
ance since 1996.)
But they know they can say a lot of things.
Saying doesn't make it so.
Working, competing, believing, finishing do.
"Obviously, it's been extremely frustrating but ex-
tremely motivating, too. We've won six while we've been
here, which is as ridiculous as it sounds," senior defen-
sive end Evan Panfil said. "But it is what it is and we
can't do anything to change the past.
"We've got what we need to turn it around. It's
about stepping up, shutting your mouth and work-
ing. We don't have anything to talk about. And guys
have taken that approach. Guys want to turn this
around. It's motivating that we have who we have at the
positions they are at, and the amount of work that guys
are putting in to turn it around."
