GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 26, ISSUE 6 101 rey Clement entering the season healthy and eager to finish his career strong — to go with more-than-capable backs in Dare Ogunbowale and Taiwan Deal — behind a line that returns four starters. Neither option at quarterback has much experience. Bart Houston is a fifth- year senior who's only played in mop-up action. He's the "safe choice," Veldhuis said. But 6-foot-4, 216-pound freshman Alex Hornibrook, who enrolled early, followed Paul Chryst from Pitt and im- pressed in spring ball. Both players have been on campus with Chryst and in his offense for the same amount of time. "It comes down to who the coaches think they can trust the most to be the most consistent producer," Velduis said. "Hornibrook has good anticipation for a younger guy and picked up the playbook pretty well. Houston is really confident and probably has the stronger arm. I've always thought the big- gest thing he needed to work on is comfort in the offense and showing more touch. So if the coaching staff thinks Houston can make the easy throws more often and make the throws he should make against a tough schedule, I would probably expect them to pick him. "This is an important decision for them to get right." Especially considering the de- fense should be solid again, even if it's without DC Dave Aranda, who's at season-opening opponent LSU now. Last season, the Badgers led the country in scoring defense (13.7 ppg), were second in total (268.5), fourth in rushing (95.4) and seventh in passing (173.2). They lost all-league linebacker Joe Schobert, but Vince Biegel could be in line for a Schobert-type sea- son (9.5 sacks). Three other start- ers return in the front seven, but the back half of the defense took a hit and only one starter is back. It'll be interesting to see how that makeup affects new coordinator Justin Wilcox's style. "I think they can be pretty success- ful with a 3-4 aggressive defense, and the front seven is set up to where they could have a couple impact players. The question is whether their sec- ondary can play well enough to let the front seven be aggressive and get after the QB," Velduis said. "If the second- ary is prone to breaking down, that may force Wilcox's hand and make it play more conservatively." — Stacy Clardie David Stluka Running back Corey Clement has been plagued by injury issues and an off-field inci- dent, but if he's healthy, Wisconsin's offense could look more like Wisconsin's offense. Here's a list of the longest winning streaks in the series since Old Oaken Bucket battle began in 1925: The IU offense must replace one of its most decorated quarterbacks ever in Nate Sudfeld. Sudfeld is first in career passing touchdowns (61), passing yardage (7,879), 350-yard games (6), 300-yard games (11), 250- yard games (13), 200-yard games (19), four-touchdown games (5) and three-touchdown games (10) in just 37 games (26 starts) at IU. 2016 Opponent Preview Purdue 14 (1948-61*) Purdue 5 (2002-06) Purdue 4 (1926-29) Indiana 4 (1944-47) Purdue 4 (1963-66) Purdue 4 (1972-75) Purdue 4 (1983-86) Purdue 4 (1997-2000) * There was one tie game in the streak
