BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED 2016 FOOTBALL PREVIEW ✦ 153 Irish Restock The O-Line, Secondary If there's one unit where Notre Dame had to add bodies, it was along the offensive line. If there was a second, it was in the secondary at cornerback and safety. After signing just two offensive linemen and five defensive backs in the class of 2015, the Irish identified early in the recruiting cycle that both positions were going to be priorities. Thankfully for the Irish, they were able to restock both groups with plenty of talent, and it started early in the process. Kraemer, Rivals' No. 4 offensive tackle and No. 41 player overall nationally and a U.S. Army All-American, became commit No. 1 in the class when he gave a verbal pledge to offensive line coach Harry Hies- tand on Nov. 14, 2014. While the 6-5, 305-pound Kraemer could play either guard or tackle at Notre Dame — and is expected to be given a chance to crack the rotation as a true freshman — he was just part of the recruiting coup for Hiestand that earned him recognition from Rivals.com as one of the nation's top 25 recruiters. The former Chicago Bears assistant coach was also able to beat out Ohio State for Eichenberg, the No. 7 offensive tackle After inking just two offensive linemen in 2015, that position group was a big focus for the Irish. Four-star Tommy Kraemer got the ball rolling on what might be the best haul of incoming blockers in the country. PHOTO BY ANDREW IVINS Name Pos. Ht. Wt.
