hate to be that guy; the guy that
reminds you that summer is nearing
its end and our busy winter season
is close on its heels. But with that
season we also bring back a lot of business.
Skaters, hockey teams, tournaments and
events all flood our facility beginning in
September. Are you ready?
To be better prepared for the onslaught
of activity, many of us need to hire
seasonal staff to supplement with our
full-timers. That staff includes, but is
not limited to: front of house, snack bar
attendants, skate guards and sometimes
even resurfacer drivers. Because of
limited budgets for part-timers, we often
look toward students, college and high
school—some under the age of 18—to
fill those positions. Many of us consider
this a necessary "evil" as we'd prefer to
hire experienced workers. Unfortunately
