STAR to Change Name and Logo in 2017 Starting in January 2017, STAR will be doing business as; United States Ice Rink Association. The name change is one of the most significant changes that will take place in a larger re-branding effort for the organization. The purpose of the name change is to clearly communicate to individuals and organizations within the ice rink and ice sports industries: Who we are; Why we exist; and What we do. Key to the success of our organization moving forward will be a total commitment by our staff, board members and industry partners to our new mission, vision and objectives. OUR MISSION: To advance the ice rink industry through membership, world-class education, training and events. OUR VISION: We are the premier membership organization dedicated to fostering the success of the ice rink industry in the United States. OBJECTIVES: • Promote the sustainability and growth of the ice rink industry. • Raise the level of professionalism amongst ice rink industry members through our leadership in education, training and resources. • To provide our members with exclusive networking, educational and professional development opportunities. In addition to the name change, a new organization logo is being created. Everyone that attended the 2016 North American Rink Conference & Expo (NARCE) were given the opportunity to vote on one of four proposed new organization logos. The voting results and feedback received will be used to make adjustments to the eventual logo. J 50 / JULY.AUGUST.2016 RINKMAGAZINE.COM STAR NEWS Updates from Serving The American Rinks PHOTOS: COURTESY OF FOMA STAR Supports FOMA Annual Conference In June, the Facility Operations Managers Association (FOMA) held its 15th annual member conference and trade show in Columbus, Ohio. Fifty- three operations and management professionals representing 25 NHL arenas attended the conference to participate in educational courses, discuss best practices, exchange ideas and hear about upcoming changes for the 2016-17 season from NHL operations department staff. STAR staff provided event management assistance for the conference and held a Basic Arena Refrigeration course for attendees. STAR would like to thank the FOMA Board of Directors for the opportunity to once again contribute to their annual conference this year. , STAR staff broke down the ins and outs of Basic Arena Refrigeration for attendees of the FOMA Conference.
