  BASKETBALL RECRUITING He averaged a double-double for the Trojans, who ended the season with a 23-1 record, averaging 19.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 1.9 steals during the team's perfect regu- lar season. He shot 52 percent from the field and knocked down 45 triples. Beilein watched Johns during the regular season and in the spring and summer AAU sessions. The coach also caught him at the U-M Team Camp June 25, where Johns played well. "He was just talking about how I fit with the program, most importantly to be in my books in school," Johns said of his offer talk with Beilein. "I also talked to [new assistant] Coach [Saddi] Washington. He and my mom actually ran track together back in high school, which is pretty cool. It's a small world. "He is a very respectful person. It's been good to get to know him." Johns said he'd keep his options open and has no leaders. He does see himself as a fit in Michigan's offense, however, as an outstanding shooter with great length. "They want me as a combo for- ward, two, three or four," he said. "That's what he said I can be, and I agree with it. I think I can contribute in that area." He suffered a hand injury in June and was sidelined for his team's performance at the Michigan Team Camp June 25. Michigan State offered and has made a move (he visited there re- cently), and home state Ohio State has also offered. That could be tough to overcome, but Young does like the Wolverines. He visited in the fall for a football game and earned his Michigan offer in late December after Beilein saw one of his games. The U-M head coach also came for a spring in-home visit.
