ISSUE WITH SCHEDULE Dear The Wolverine: Our athletic department and fans of our women's softball team should be concerned about the Big Ten Softball Tournament the weekend of May 13-14. Michigan played a seven- inning semifinal, had a 30-minute break and then played a 10-inning final game, which ended at 1 a.m. on the 15th. The announcers said the confer- ence was determined to play the final game that Saturday. When it was all over our team had played 17 innings with only a 30-minute break between the semifinal and the final games. Our players were tired and more subject to injury. The final game could have been played on Sunday and broadcast at a later time recog- nizing there was no time available on BTN that Sunday. It is obvious that the conference did not have the best interest of the players in mind. If the conference cares about the student-athletes they would not place them in a situation where they would be more susceptible to injury. Even though our athletic direc- tor, Warde Manuel, has been on the job a short time, this is a matter that deserves his attention and time to enlist other ADs to bring about a more responsible scheduling format   FROM OUR READERS SEND YOUR LETTERS TO: Wolverine Letters • P.O.
