GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 1 8 Boudia/Johnson Boiler Index: Smoking The Boilermaker duo won silver in the 10-meter platform at the Rio Olympics on Aug. 8, securing Boudia's third career medal — on Aug. 20, he'd add to it, picking up a bronze in the individual event — and the first for Johnson. But the best moment for Purdue fans might have come the next day, when Boudia playfully corrected "Today Show" host Matt Lauer, who had called the duo "Hoosiers." Boudia responded, saying they were "specifically Boilermakers," with Johnson adding "Boiler up." Caleb Swanigan Boiler Index: Steaming Caleb Swanigan enjoyed a big August, leading the Boilermakers in scoring (18.5) and rebounding (10.8) as they went 4-0 on their trip to Spain, and doing so in only 24 minutes per game. Swanigan was dominant at times, hitting nearly 60 percent of his field goals while also recording nearly three assists per game. Probably a wise decision the sophomore chose to return to Purdue for at least one more season; it could be a big one. Domonique Young Boiler Index: Smoldering Perhaps no Boilermaker has made a bigger turnaround in only a few short months. After looking mentally checked out at times during the spring, when he struggled to catch the ball — that's a problem when you're a receiver — the senior was outstanding during camp. And he capped that with a great jersey scrimmage, scoring two touchdowns among his three receptions. — Kyle Charters Boiler Index Remember When … The storyline hasn't changed much in 20 years. We ran this image of a vocal Chike Okeafor in our football preview issue heading into the 1996 season. The 2016 Boilermakers under Coach Darrell Hazell may not be as vocal, but they know, as Coach Jim Colletto's team did back then, that it is time for a breakthrough performance.
