GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 1 24
pleasant way of communicating
very clearly and honestly, show-
ing proper amounts of humility.
But he is also pleasantly aggres-
sive. He demonstrated a high
probability that he could help our
coaches and our staff win cham-
pionships and be successful."
Berghoff also liked Bobinski's
background of having grown up
with middle-class roots as a son
of a potato farmer. He thinks
that is one of the many intangi-
bles that will assist Bobinski in
relating well to others around
Purdue.
"Mike comes off as not too
fancy, but he's not dull either,"
said Berghoff, who has served
on the Board of Trustees since
2009. "He has some charisma
about him.
"We liked that he had been at
a number of places we can un-
derstand and that they were rele-
vant training grounds for a place
like Purdue. Notre Dame, having
been an athlete and coach there,
and then being in an institution
(Akron) that was troubled and
having to make some tough deci-
sions was highly relevant. Then,
his next stop was Xavier, a school
we have watched with its basket-
ball success. And, of course, Geor-
gia Tech is a peer institution that
we respect and is similar in many
ways to what he will see in West
Lafayette.
"Based on all of that, he is real-
ly a good fit for Purdue."
