Eddy Wilson 18 6-4, 306, So. 10 tackles, 1 PBU* 2. Keiwan Jones 50 6-2, 282, So. On the first day of training camp, Austin Larkin was barking out orders at Purdue's freshmen defensive linemen, helping the trio get a drill correct. He seemed like a seasoned veteran. Considering he's not — he's only entering his first season at Purdue and only his second year ever as a D-end — the moment illustrated Larkin's growth. He's been a quick study, to the point where he's locked down a starting job. Few might have predicted that, at least this soon, when he transferred from City College of San Francisco in the spring. But Larkin's intense want-to, plus his high motor and athleticism, give him a chance. Running Back 1. Markell Jones 8 5-11, 211, So. 168 rushes, 875 yards, 10 TDs 34 rec., 239 yards, 1 TD* 2. Offense Purdue kept the load off Markell Jones for much of training camp, keeping his repetitions to a minimum. Even in the jersey scrimmage, he played in only one series. He's just too valuable. And then there's the mystery knee ailment, which twice knocked him from games early last season. It's not been solved, even after an Aug. 13 visit to the team doctor. But, Jones can, and needs to, have a huge season for the Boilermakers, particularly if he's able to stay healthy and rack up the carries. Defense Cornerback 1. Da'Wan Hunte 2 5-9, 188, Jr. 18 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 FF* 2. Tim Cason 24 5-11, 195, So. Nickel Back 1. Brandon Roberts 1 5-11, 198, So. 36 tackles, 1 sack, 1 int.* 2.
