GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 1 44 In some cases, Purdue's looked to instill confidence in its targets that early opportunity is there for the taking, especially at one posi- tion above all others. The Boilermakers are loaded with experience right now at wide receiver, with projected starters DeAngelo Yancey, Cameron Posey and Domonique Young all being se- niors. The flip side of that luxury, ob- viously, is that those players' shelf lives in the program are short. Purdue can credibly sell early playing time at the position, partic- ularly with few known commodities at the position due to return after this season. Gregory Phillips, now a junior, is really the only non-senior who's played notable snaps to this point. That's where Purdue has been able to find maybe its greatest early recruiting success, landing com- mitments from receivers Hayes, Brevin Harris and LaPerion Perry. Whereas Hayes and the 6-foot- 5 Harris are big receivers and two of Purdue's most highly thought-of early commits, Perry is a 4.4-type 5-8 slot receiver. Branch, a powerful 210-pound converted linebacker, is the only running back committed thus far and could be the only one signed. But quarterback has apparently merited more scholarship atten- tion, despite the fact Purdue has three scholarship underclassmen on the roster currently. Purdue took legacy Griffin Als- tott as its first commitment for the class, then followed in June when it landed California's Nick Sipe, a three-star recruit who might have been on the verge of Pac-12 offers at the time of his decision. 1600 South Creasy Lane Lafayette, IN 47905 1-866-906-6223 Bob Rohrman Subaru Buy a Subaru and Keep Indiana Driving.
