GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 1 45 "I didn't see any reason to wait," Sipe said. Purdue landed one of its highest offensive line pri- orities when mammoth 6-8, 320-pounder Rob Hudson committed over offers from Iowa State and Syracuse. The three-star recruit joined Florida's Jylton Tusha as Purdue's O-line pledges thus far. Purdue will presumably need a tight end in the months to come and probably one more wide receiver, perhaps a junior college player. On defense, Purdue has again looked for corners in bulk and landed a priority in August when Miami's Dedrick Mackey committed over a written offer from Iowa State. He joined Illinois' Mitch West and Ala- bama's Marcus Jones, two smaller DBs who run well. Defensive tackle Malcolm Robinson and pass-rush- er Tijaun Mason of Massillon and Memphis, respec- tively, are Purdue's two defensive line commits. From this point forward, Purdue will most likely again be very active in the junior college market, with immediate help — again — being sought on the offen- sive line, for one thing. It's also begun laying ground- work to potentially recruit J.C. players at linebacker, receiver, in the secondary and on the defensive line. Again, Purdue has a large group of early commit- ments, but will have to work to hold on to them. A year ago at this time, for whatever it's worth, Pur- due had nine players committed, four of which wound up elsewhere when February hit. And, at that point, two commitments had already come and gone. So there's work left to be done to both finish out the class and to retain what's in place, but nevertheless, it's been a solid start to the 2017 cycle for Purdue, all things considered. j Gold and Black Illustrated!
