4 THE WOLVERINE OCTOBER 2016 LONGTIME READER REMINISCES Dear The Wolverine: Thanks for everything. I have been with you for about 25 years now. My first game in The Big House was in October of 1958. The Wolverines lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes, 37-14. The an- nounced attendance was 68,618. I was only able to attend games when the opportunity presented itself, but I was privileged to see Roger Stau- bach in 1963 (Navy upset U-M, 26-13) and Bob Griese in 1965 (Purdue won, 17-15). My favorite game was the 67-65 Illinois game that went three overtimes (it was cold!). My main intent in writing was to make a prediction: Brandon Peters will be U-M's starting QB before the end of the regular season. And wait until Dylan McCaffrey gets here. Thank goodness for Jim Harbaugh. He's made football relevant again. Tom Reynolds Sebring, Fla. Tough to argue your final point, Tom. But it looks like Wilton Speight will have a whole lot to say about your prediction. CHECKING THE SCHEDULE Dear The Wolverine: It is hard not to play the season on paper before they play out the season on the field. The problem is that things do not work out on the field the same as the way they work out on paper. Most predict a win against Penn State. Wisconsin should fall in Ann Ar- bor, but there are a few prognosticators out there that feel the Badgers could pull off what could be considered an upset, and the Badger win over LSU may indicate that they are better than initially predicted. However, the game is in Ann Arbor, not Green Bay, so I give the nod to Michigan. No one is giving Rutgers and Illi- nois a chance, and most feel that the real road season starts with the game in East Lansing against the Michigan State Spartans, rather than the night October 2016 • Vol. 28, No. 3 ISSN 1048-9940 Editor John Borton The Wolverine.com Editor Chris Balas Football Recruiting Writers Brandon Brown Contributing Writers Andrew Kahn Austin Fox Managing Editor Ryan Tice Contributing Editor Steve Downey Editorial Intern Leland Mitchinson Layout And Design Jeanette Blankenship Chris Miller Contributing Photographers Lon Horwedel Per Kjeldsen Cover Photo Lon Horwedel Publisher Stu Coman Business Manager Linda Autry Circulation Manager Gail Evans Marketing/Merchandise Manager Beverly Taylor Director Of Advertising Michelle Delee-Hamilton Customer Service Lauren Saunders The Wolverine is published monthly.
