Indians Aug. 1 — this year's non-waiver trade deadline day. The right-handed hitter is very effec- tive against lefty pitchers and is used to coming off the bench or being used as a spot starter. Guyer was drafted out of Vir- ginia by the Chicago Cubs in 2007 and was traded to Tampa Bay four years later. Tyler Wilson, a right-handed pitcher, was also with a team seeking a postseason payoff, bouncing back and forth between the Baltimore Orioles and the Triple-A Norfolk Tides this season. Another former Virginia standout with playoff aspirations is Ryan Zimmerman, the first baseman for the Washington Na- tionals. He was drafted in the first round out of Virginia in 2005 by the Nationals and made his big league debut that Sept. 1 with the club. He came up through the system as a third baseman and won a Gold Glove there while making the All-Star game in 2009. But due to shoulder surgery, he has moved to first base and spent time on the disabled list again this year with the Nationals. Colorado Rockies first baseman Mark Reynolds, who was drafted by Arizona in 2004, reached a big career milestone this season despite missing a month after being hit with a pitch that broke his hand. After he returned from the disabled list, he hit the 250th homer of his career in the 10th inning of a 3-2 win at San Diego Sept. 11. Outfielder Jarrett Parker, a second-round draft choice in 2010, joined Lopez in San Francisco in 2015 and was part of a Giants roster that was fighting for another playoff berth this October.
