Rideau Insurance opened the Westport Youngtimers Hockey League season with a tight 4-3 win over Herlehy Home Building Centre on Sunday. Spencer Sortberg scored twice for Rideau Insurance with Mark Turnbull and Mike Hill chipping in with one each. Justin Machan scored twice for Herlehy's and Adam Herlehy added another. In Sunday's other game, McNichols' Plumb- ing and Electric shelled Blair Construction 9-2, led by a hat trick from Joel Weber. Jordan Lyn, Braden Truelove and Jeff Tobin had two each for McNi- chol's. Skylar Hudson and Scott Niblock scored in a losing cause for McNi- chol's. This Sunday Rideau Insurance meets Blair's at 7:30 p.m. and Herlehy's faces off against McNi- chols' at 8:40 p.m. The Westport Rideaus dropped a pair of games in regulation time on the weekend after coming from behind to tie both games by the third period. Perth paid their first visit to Westport Friday and Michael Anson opened the scoring in the first before the Blue Wings replied with three straight to lead 3-1 midway through the second. Westport bounced back before the second inter- mission however, with Mitch Larabie and Simon Corriveau tying it at 3-3. Perth replied with three goals in the first half of the third and added a short- handed goal in the final minute for a 7-3 win. "We have a young team and we have to have patience with them," said GM/Asst. Coach Mike Seed. "We were in both games and just made some mistakes late but we play hard and it will come," he said. Alex Zoutis faced 52 shots in the loss while Westport had 33 shots on Cameron Scott. Saturday night against the 2-6-0 Char-Lan, West- port outshot the Rebels 38- 28 but never managed a lead the entire game. After a scoreless first, Char-Lan scored twice only to have Skylar Choffe and then Corey Symington tie it for Westport. In the third, however, Char-Lan scored twice around the midway mark and held on for the win. Brett Humberstone made it close at 4-3 with 29 seconds left but the Rideaus couldn't get the equalizer. Lee Spurgeon stopped 24 of 28 in the loss. This Friday the Rideaus host Prescott and then get a week off before hosting Arnprior Fri., Oct. 14.
