8 NORTH PROVIDENCE OCTOBER 26-NOVEMBER 1, 2016 | VALLEY BREEZE | NORTH PROVIDENCE EDITION of that property, at 1825 Mineral Spring Ave., was negotiated with its owners earlier this year. The town is now seeking bids from three qualified wrecking companies to tear the build- ing down, he said. The money for both properties will come out of the North Providence Police Department's $60 million wind- fall from Google in 2012. Both prop- erties would be demolished to make way for a new police and fire complex across from North Providence High School. "I'm not ready to just give the taxpayers' money away when the appraisals don't justify it," he said. The town's appraisal came in signifi- cantly under what officials are offering for the property, he said. While the commercial complex next door will be torn down, two garages behind it will stay up during construc- tion, which will likely begin next spring. Officials have been notified that the money for the Knights of Columbus will go to charity, said Lombardi. The actual construction of the new public safety complex is expected to cost more than $25 million, with funds also taken out of the Google fund, and Lombardi then plans to sell the existing complex up the road. The town is negotiating to acquire the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BUILDING at 1835 Mineral Spring Ave. to make way for a new public safety complex.
