16 GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED Swanigan and Vincent Edwards are each fit the proverbial "go-to guy" sort of profile. Edwards finished the season play- ing his best basketball of the year, clearly more confident and comfort- able in late February and early March than he'd been at any point prior. It mattered for Purdue, a lot, as it played at its highest level of the year late in the season before its first-round NCAA collapse. If he picks up this season where he left off, he might establish himself as a star. He was playing like one last we saw him. As for Swanigan, he's on the door- step of big things himself after a fine freshman season, but one that left him wanting more. It wasn't an easy transition for the former elite recruit, switching from playing center in high school to play- ing the role of old-school power for- ward in new-age college basketball. But with age and experience, it's assumed, will come poise and pa- tience for a player who was some- times too eager last season. The result, one would think, will be in- creased efficiency, both in the form of higher shooting percentages and fewer turnovers. Swanigan averaged a little more than 10 points per game last sea- son and affected contests with his offensive rebounding presence, but the hope will be for him to boost his 46-percent shooting — including a Tom Campbell Carsen Edwards brings a scorer's men- tality to the Boilermaker offense, but how be blends in will be a storyline in 2016-17. Tom Campbell Dakota Mathias moves into a more prominent role now, presumably Purdue's No. 1 shooting guard to start the season. When he asserts him offensively, as he did late last season, it makes Purdue noticeably better.
